Poet Adelaide Anne Procter was born in London and raised in a literary environment that helped nurture and develop her own budding talent. Most of her poems were published in Charles Dicken's magazines, often under a pseudonym. Her life was marked by her conversion to Roman Catholicism, and by her devotion to women's rights.
